We’re here from the beginning and have been for nearly 20 years, bringing our hands-on, tailored approach to getting your business off to the best possible start.
We operate several funds that invest in young businesses and specialise in pre-seed and seed funding.
We like to get involved early. Pioneer Group provides vital life sciences investment and funding primarily to companies that we have worked with through our Accelerator Programme activity or with companies based at our sites across the UK. That way, we get to know the people, technology and business well before investing.
Having said that, we will also look at any great opportunities with game changing technology, so feel free to get in touch- no matter how early you are in the process.

The Pioneer Ventures team is made up of scientists, entrepreneurs and investors. We, and our network of coaches and mentors, are here to support companies post investment.
Whether that’s direct advice, introductions to key people or access to our wider network, everything we do is targeted at helping to build business success.
Our focus
We tend to invest in five main areas of life sciences:

- Medical technologies
- Discovery and development services
- Digital health and pharma tech
We prefer to be the first investor and will often join with co-investors in subsequent rounds or work to build a syndicate in the first round. We’re happy to lead or to follow.
Our process
You may still be working out your business proposition or have some fundamental questions to address. That’s OK. Get in touch and we can discuss whether joining one of our start-up programmes might be the best route forward.
If you’re further advanced and have a pitch deck, send it in and we’ll take a look. If it looks like something we might invest in, we’ll set up a meeting, following which we may want to find out more about the business.
The process culminates in a presentation to our investment advisory panel, made up of successful life science entrepreneurs and investors. Once you have the green light, you have your life sciences funding.
